Personal Profiles
Dr Sandip Deshmukh
BE, ME, PhD
Research Fellow
Short Biography:
Sandip Deshmukh joined the Centre for Environmental Strategy in September 2008, as a Research Fellow, working on EPSRC funded "Regional Visions of Integrated Sustainable Infrastructure Optimised for NeighbourhoodS" (ReVISIONS) project. This research project aims to provide the knowledge and evidence base for public agencies and private companies to plan regional development together with infrastructure for transport, water, waste and energy (ranging from large capital schemes to small scale decentralized services), in a more coordinated and integrated way so as to maximize economic competitiveness, reduce impacts on the environment and resources, and allow households to live more sustainably, with a socially inclusive and enhanced quality of life. Sandip's role in this project is to identify and characterize options for energy supply for the different development types envisaged by the consortium.
Before joining Centre for Environmental Strategy, Sandip worked for five years as a Lecturer in Amravati University, India and for eight years as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani - India. An engineer by training, Sandip holds bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s in Thermal Power Engineering from Amravati University, India and a PhD from BITS, Pilani in "Region-wise Development of Integrated Renewable Energy Systems". Sandip has a vast experience of teaching to undergraduate students of Mechanical Engineering. Sandip is also member of several academic bodies which includes Life member of Solar Energy Society of India, Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education, India, Associate Member of Institution of Engineers (India) and Member of Nitron Circle of Experts, New York, USA.
