Personal Profiles
Dr Jacopo Torriti
Jacopo’s research focuses on the costs and benefits of market investments in flexible networks as well as the economic and policy implications of demand response from a customers and loads perspective. In recent research work he has been applying a number of regulatory economics tools -e.g. cost-benefit analysis, impact assessment and standard cost model- to various aspects of energy economics, including the macroeconomic impacts of the liberalisation of EU energy markets; demand response programmes in Europe; and quality of service of electricity supply.
Before joining CES in September 2008, Jacopo was Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence (2007-2008), Economic Analyst at the Sustainable Development Commission (2007) and Research Assistant for the Department of Economics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2003).
He holds a PhD in Risk Management from King’s College London (2007), an MA in European Studies from King’s College London (2003) and a five-year undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Milan (2001).
Jacopo has collaborated with a number of government bodies, including the European Commission (DG Environment), the UK Cabinet Office (as a member of the Strategic Measurement Monitoring Team, Better Regulation Executive), the US Office of Management and Budget, the UK General Medic Council and other governmental institutions in Europe (e.g. Autorità per l’energia elettrica e il gas). He has developed and delivered training courses on impact assessment and cost-benefit analysis to the European Commission (DG SANCO), the Italian Government (National School for Public Administration, Presidency of the Council of Ministers) and the Romanian Government (EU Phare Project). In addition, he has undertaken knowledge transfer work for General Electric, Terna and Pfizer.
