Personal Profiles
Miss Hannah Chalmers
Postgraduate Research Student
Short Biography:
Hannah first started researching carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies at Imperial College London in summer 2003 and joined CES in 2007 as a PhD student. Her first degree was in mechanical engineering and she is currently funded as a UK Energy Research Centre multidisciplinary student focussing on technical and economic aspects of CO2 capture for power plants.
Hannah is supervised by Professor Matthew Leach.
Research Interests:
Hannah's work combines improving technical understanding of CO2 capture technologies for power plants with the development of economic models that can be used to identify operating patterns to maximise value of power plant operating with CO2 capture. This includes developing techniques that can be used by potential investors and other stakeholders to carry out their own analysis.
Research Collaborations:
Alongside her PhD studentship, Hannah maintains close links with Jon Gibbins and other academics at Imperial College as a part-time research assistant. She has been actively involved in the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Consortium (www.ukccsc.co.uk) as well as a number of projects with industrial partners including power plant utilities and original equipment manufacturers for the power plant industry.
